Exterior Paint.....

Am I nuts for loving these paint colors on a little house?

We're sort distilling our belongings down to the stuff we really like as we go. We're almost completely out of the old house, though some work remains. I'm glad we've had all this time to get it done.

This is the awesome wisteria plant that we're going to have to rein in for the health of the stucco. Dad, the light pink parts are stucco. Real stucco. Yes the colors are gross. What were they thinking?

This is the backyard, looking off the deck. There's a pretty cool corner store and an awesome antique store behind us. He's the guy I bought my first book press from. I would love a flagstone patio to replace some of the grass, and more privacy plants. Maybe like this.

Conor's room, with drum set, in the green he chose. There's a big blue papasan chair behind me.

The living room is starting to come together. Todd's painting in the background.

Except this completely insane mountain of books we chose to keep. Looks like we're going to be whittling away at the book collection further. Keep your eyes open for a book sale soon. Of course, about 4 cases are comic books, too. They won't be going anywhere.

Forgive me the quality of the photos....I took them with my cell phone on this rainy gray morning. As you can see we are about 1/2 moved in. Tyree will be using his woodworking skills to construct us a custom bookcase for the wall that's covered in book boxes, and he'll be making the base that will hold the custom couch. I was saying to my dad yesterday, it is a bit like a boat dealing with a house this small. A place for everything and everything in it's place.

A Fresh Start!

We're moving! I wanted a fresh start with a new address and a new look for the new house.

Just to get everyone up to date, we bought a small house just a few blocks from here in the Fountain District. The neighborhood is a lot busier than here, being sandwiched between Northwest and Meridian...but that means only a block's walk to some great restaurants and about 100 yards to the ReStore, where after leaving my position there 5 years ago, they still give me an employee discount.

We have this month to get moved and get the rental in order, which is nice. I wanted to post some before and afters of the new house, but I didn't manage to take any before shots before we started painting. So these are from the real estate listing. The furniture and color choices were those of the previous owners:

The front of the house, soon to be repainted and fenced. Emmett, we need you this summer!

The old house served us well for many years. We dismantled the raised garden beds, and the chicken coop. The chickens went to reside at Addie's house, where I am sure they are happy in the palace that Cary and Dave built them. You can read about their new place here on Addie's blog. We'll be taking some of our favorite plants with us.
